Saranya S. Hegde
Smt. Saranya S. Hegde established the Mahila Dakshata Samiti in Bangalore in 1991. She was always interested in the uplift of women. Their home in Mangalore was an open house for all who needed any sort of help. While her husband was posted in Bombay she was actively involved in the social service wing of the Bunts’ Sangha. There she was instrumental in starting schemes such as counseling of abused women and scholarships for poor girls.
Today she leads a band of dedicated volunteers and staff members of Mahila Dakshata Samiti doing yeoman service to the women and children of the land.
She says, "You die only once. So why be afraid. Go forth bravely and fight the injustices and atrocities in our society"
